BUild stands for Baptist Union Initiative for Learning Disabilities.  Our club meets every 4th Monday evening at 8pm till 9-30pm for the purpose of Bible study and worship. Stories are kept very simple and basic and are aimed at the members' level of understanding.  Tea and coffee is served and the evening closes in prayer.  At the moment about 12 people attend each meeting, most of whom live in local residential homes or supported living.

 

We hold an annual cream tea and concert for the fellowship and have a special party at Christmas when Santa appears.  We also take part in, and sometimes lead, worship at our Sunday service.

 

Our BUild Social Club meet twice a month on a Friday afternoon at 2pm till 4pm most of the time is spent playing games, with carpet bowls being the favourite, also numerous board games and art etc.  We also enjoy watching DVDs and videos and tea and coffee is served.  Once or twice a year outings are arranged to local places of interest. Most of the members are the same as those who attend the Monday evening club, however we also have a small group who only attend the social club (all are welcome to any of our BUild meetings).

 

We have a good team of helpers a number of whom either work with, or have experience of, people with learning disabilities, but we can always use extra hands.

 

You will see from the above that we aim to be an inclusive Church and our aim for our brothers and sisters in the BUild clubs is to have fun and fellowship and bring them closer to Jesus.
